My aunt was the only person in my family I could really connect with. She “got me” like no one else did. Will anyone ever be so close to me again?

Sometimes the people closest to you are not your immediate family. You might:

  • Connect with someone at work who becomes like a sibling to you.
  • Be very close with an uncle or a grandparent.
  • Remain close with an ex-partner or spouse.
  • Have found a life-long role model in your former supervisor at work.
These relationships have great meaning and can affect you deeply when they end.
