Chapter 2: What does grief look and feel like?

How grief affects your body

Changes in the way our body feels and acts are frequent when we are grieving. Many people find themselves consulting their doctor about some new and troubling physical symptom.

I feel hollowness in my stomach.
“I can't handle any loud noises or loud places.”
“I feel tightness in my throat and chest.”
“My mouth is dry.”
“My medical problems seem to be getting worse now.”
“I feel like I can't breathe.”
“I have no energy.”
