What you find helpful may change over time. You might recognize your experiences or find that some of them aren’t reflected here. A note about languageThroughout this and other modules in MyGrief.ca, phrases such as “death from suicide” and “died by suicide” are used. These are used in place of “committed suicide,” phrasing that can be distressing for families because of overtones from a time when suicide was considered a criminal act. This is no longer the case in most parts of the world. Using neutral phrasing like “died by suicide” can help to reduce the social stigma around suicide death and grief.
