Chapter 3: Medication safety

Staying organized

I didn’t find managing the meds to be difficult. What was difficult was when she would question what I was doing or argue about the medications.

It is important to stay well organized and ensure you understand the logistics around both giving medication and storing it. Ideally these tasks should be organized by one person. Anyone else who is involved in care or who visits might be asked to work within whatever system has been established.

Here are a couple of important points to remember:

  • Provide the correct medication and dose at the appropriate time.
  • Keep track of the medications given and the times they were provided.
