Chapter 5: Your family

Introduction

After my son died, I felt pulled in so many directions. I had my own grief, my partner was also grieving, my daughters were devastated, and so were my parents, who had lost their grandson.

Each family has its own way of responding to grief, as does each member of that family. In addition to their family’s “style,” each person’s grief is affected by their relationship with your child who has died. This chapter explores some of these factors in more detail including:

  • Ways families grieve
  • Your partner or spouse
  • Your child’s siblings
  • Your child’s grandparents
  • Your child’s spouse and/or children
